SHARON SHERROD

Sharon Walker Sherrod is a graduate of Birmingham Southern College. She holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in English Literature and a Masters of Arts degree in Management. She retired from a successful twenty-eight-year career in management with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.  Her corporate career afforded her the opportunity to acquire a recognized level of expertise in management, leadership, operations, service and strategic planning. Successfully managing the company’s second largest division required Sharon to effectively partner with the marketing, communications, corporate training and employment divisions to insure timely, effective and memorable service experiences to the company’s then 3.7 million customers.  Sharon is masterful at working with cross functional, multicultural, multidisciplinary teams to define and implement major corporate and divisional objectives. She served on the company’s strategic planning committee and represented her division at numerous executive and senior executive level forums.  Sharon’s management span has included up to 5 mid-level managers, 20 front line managers, 30 supervisors and 550 service associates with locations in Birmingham and Huntsville, Alabama.

Sharon has served on the Board of Directors for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society of Central Alabama, The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, The Sickle Cell Disease Foundation and The Call Center Advisory Board at Jefferson State Community College. Sharon is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and the Tri-County Alabama chapter of The Links, Incorporated. She is a member of the National Management Association and a graduate of Project Corporate Leadership. Sharon continues to volunteer with the following charities, Habitat for Humanities, Grace House Ministries, United Way of Central Alabama, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (Walk for a Cure), My Sister’s Closet, The Sickle Cell Disease Foundation, The United Negro College Fund, The American Red Cross, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (Light the Night) and First Light Ministries.

Sharon is married to Chef Clayton Sherrod and they have two daughters, Shannon and Valerie. Sharon and her family are members of Church of the Highlands. In her leisure, Sharon enjoys spending time with her family and friends, dogs, Baxter and Bentley and gardening. She loves on and off-Broadway plays, jazz, and R&B performances. Sharon enjoys reading and listening to podcasts and recordings on spiritual and personal development as well as human interest stories.

She currently mentors managers and leaders that are seeking career growth, leadership development and career changes.
